Lot’s of layoffs at work today. Tons of really good, quality people paying the price of shitty decisions by management. I’m safe but I’ve been “on the list” more than once in my career. Honestly, I don’t know what feels worse, getting cut or surviving the knife. This just sucks so fucking bad :(

I feel you, I was in oil when the downturn struck. Everyday none of us knew if we’d have a job the next day. Getting cut hurts worse I think, having survived layoffs for 1.5 years to eventually get up myself.

Getting cut is worse. I’ve only been laid-off once in my life and it was a shitty job. But that hurt worse than the numerious employees I’ve seen laid off around me. At this point I’d be looking for a new job.

Ugh. Sorry, man. Been there. Can confirm: does suck.
Regardless, glad you made it through.

That really sucks, I survived a layoff of 300 engineers at my company about a year ago. It always puts one helluva damper on morale, Good luck!

Sorry, man...had a unique situation just out of college....survived a June layoff and was soo happy I was safe. The guys that got laid off, though, did okay, most of them found stuff pretty quickly. Then, 2 weeks before 9/11/01, they closed my whole plant, and so I got laid off into the .com bubble crash and 9/11 fears as a new college graduate. Was out of work for 9 months.

All of us below the managers of this world pay the price of their incompetence.
My managers couldn’t run a bath, never mind run a business.

They still have people left to layoff? I used to be really good friends with this other engineer, and she was up in the Houston office as part of her job and it seemed like everyday she would message me on communicator being like I saw another person come to get a box for all their things. I thought the layoffs were over once I survived early 2016, and well as we can see I was wrong.

Gotta say, I feel like which is worse kind of depends on the industry and how well-developed your backup plan is. Life can be a little better without that constant fear hanging over you. Keep a low profile and work out some other options! But also have a beer to celebrate still having what you’ve got.

I am in your same position, only thing is we are union so we worked our contract for a 90 day notice as part of a merger. It is going to be sad watch those people go. I survived the cut but the anxiety of knowing i can be next does not let me work in peace.
